Beautiful Otter Falls NC: A Scenic Waterfall Hike in Seven Devils, NC

Otter Falls NC in Seven Devils, North Carolina, was a quick but worthwhile stop during our time in the area. The trailhead has a relatively small parking lot, and because it was already full when we arrived, we parked in the overflow area about 0.2 miles farther down the mountain. The winding mountain road leading to the trailhead is typical of the area, so take your time and watch for other vehicles.

Otter Falls NC

Otter Falls NC is a charming little waterfall that makes for an enjoyable short hike trail, which opened in 2015, is approximately 1 mile round trip with about 226 feet of elevation gain. The hike begins with an easy descent toward the waterfall, but remember that what goes down must come back up! The return climb has enough of an incline to make the hike feel more moderate. Along the way, the trail was pretty and dotted with colorful wildflowers, adding to the charm of this short mountain adventure.

A lookout near the top of the waterfall provides a great perspective and a nice place to stop for photographs. Otter Falls may not have the dramatic scale of nearby Crabtree Falls, but it is a pleasant little waterfall and an easy addition to a day exploring the Seven Devils area. The trail is suitable for families and dogs, although conditions can vary, and the area can become quite busy, especially on weekends.
