Hiked Nuwati trail in Grandfather Mountain State park on October 17, 2022. We parked at Boone Fork Parking Area off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Fall foliage on the parkway was stunning. I had to stop and click my shutter before starting on the trail. Leaf colors on the trail were equally pretty especially around the wooden bridge we crossed on the Tanawha rail before reaching Nuwati. Nuwati is actually part of Grandfather Mountain State Park. The trail is only 1.5 miles each way ending in a bit of a scramble up to the Storyteller rock for a beautiful view of the foliage. Going straight leads to a camping stop at the Refuge where a tent platform and a fire pit await. I would rate it as moderate, the scramble to Storyteller rock is short and not that difficult. I recommend this trail especially in the fall.
There is no fee to hike this trail, though you can make a donation if you wish. I always find a hiking stick helpful, though it may not be required on this trail.
