On July 9th, 2021 I met my friends at Elk River Falls. We hiked 5 miles to Jones falls then walked the 0.3 mile trail to Elk Falls. Both are beautiful and located in Pisgah National Forest. One parking lot allows access to both.
A short easy trail to the right leads to Elk Falls which descends 50ft into a plunge pool. Many were jumping into the pool and swimming. It’s a popular spot.
The hike to Jones Falls is an enjoyable 5 miles trail filled with beautiful wildflowers with a section going by a creek. Jones falls descend about 100ft over rocks. The trail climbs moderately to an elevation just over 800ft.
We stopped by Newland, NC for dinner after our hike. We enjoyed the flowers planted on main st as well as the large mural in this small town. I highly recommend visiting both of these falls for a fun day trip especially after it had rained.
