Ultimate Yoho Adventure: Natural Bridge and Meeting of the Waters, Canada

On September 18, 2022, we set out for the Ultimate Yoho Adventure, and the drive from Banff was a scenic experience all on its own. Every few minutes, one of us blurted out some version of “Wow, look at this!” or “How beautiful is that!” — the kind of road trip soundtrack only the Canadian Rockies can inspire.

Our first stop was Natural Bridge, one of Yoho’s most popular viewpoints. Here, a massive rock formation spans the rushing Kicking Horse River, carved over centuries by powerful water flow. The lookout offers several vantage points, each perfect for photography. The parking lot is spacious, and the area is wheelchair accessible, making it an easy and rewarding stop for all visitors. If you love dramatic landscapes, this is a place where your camera will stay busy.

Later that day, we visited Meeting of the Waters, a fascinating confluence where the Yoho River and Kicking Horse River merge at 1,366 feet. The contrast is striking: the Yoho River flows milky and opaque from its glacier-fed source, while the Kicking Horse River runs clear after its sediments have settled. Watching the two rivers blend before continuing downstream to help form Natural Bridge is a quiet, mesmerizing moment — nature’s chemistry lesson in real time.
