We headed near Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee to hike this trail on Apri 27th, 2022. The trail is located in the South Cumberland Area. It was absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend this hike. The trail offers everything: An overlook, two beautiful waterfalls, a swinging bridge, boulders, rocks, creek crossings, a spring, wildflowers, a river
Alltrails says it is 4.5 miles but we clocked 6.8 miles and 1,102 ft elevation gain. We took our time photographing the plethora of colorful wildflowers and carefully scrambling over the rocks. I would rate this trail as moderately challenging due to rocks, elevation and length. A hiking stick is a must.
We first stopped by the overlook and the spring which were nice enough for a quick stop but not impressive.
The first named fall we arrived to is Suter Falls. It is about 40ft. with a lower cascade of about 20ft. This section of the hike is moderate and short. It leads you from the parking lot to the swinging bridge. As you continue past the bridge, you’ll have to scramble a bit over rocks but then the trail becomes pretty easy and lush. We crossed over a few small creeks. We did not get wet, just stepped over rocks along the way. We identified a plethora of wildflowers on this spring day: white, pink and red trillium, showy orchid, dwarf larkspur, mayapple wild geranium, etc. After hiking about 2 miles we reached Horsepound falls, another beautiful 25ft fall.
