Bridal Veil Falls Magic: Exploring Highlands’ Iconic Roadside Waterfall, NC

On October 20, 2020, we made two memorable stops along Scenic Highway 64 in Highlands, North Carolina, a route known for its lush mountain scenery and easy access to waterfalls. Our first stop was a small roadside pullout just before Bridal Veil Falls, coming from Dry Falls. I’m not sure this little cascade has an official name, but it was absolutely beautiful—water spilling gracefully over rocks and flowing into a quiet stream below. The pullout made it easy to stop, admire the view, and take photos of the cascading water framed by autumn color.

After enjoying the peaceful roadside waterfall, we continued a short distance to Bridal Veil Falls, one of Highlands’ most iconic roadside attractions. The waterfall is 120 feet tall and flows right over Highway 64, making it visible from your car as you drive past. You can also pull over and walk behind the waterfall, which is one of the reasons it’s so popular. Even though the flow wasn’t strong that day, Bridal Veil Falls was still lovely—its delicate curtain of water catching the light and creating a soft, misty atmosphere.

Both stops offered a perfect blend of convenience and beauty. Highway 64 makes it easy to enjoy waterfalls without long hikes, and the scenery is stunning no matter the season. Whether you’re chasing waterfalls, exploring Highlands, or simply enjoying a scenic drive, these two stops are well worth your time.
