Visiting Wildcat Wayside Falls, SC

After completing a challenging longer hike nearby, I decided to visit Wildcat Wayside Falls. If you’re ever in Walhalla, SC and love nature walks and waterfalls, this place is certainly worth a stop.

Wildcat Wayside is located along Highway 11 in Oconee County, near the small town of Walhalla. It’s not as well-known as some of the larger waterfalls in the state, but it offers its own unique charm and beauty. It’s the perfect spot for a short, easy hike with a picturesque reward.

As you drive along the road, you’ll notice the first waterfall. It’s visible roadside. This waterfall is relatively small but beautiful, cascading down the rocks at three levels. The sight of the waterfall alone is enough to pull you over for a quick stop and a few photos.

But for those looking to take in more of what the area has to offer, there’s a little adventure to be had on the 1-mile trail above it.

Wildcat Wayside Falls 1-Mile Loop: A Trail with Multiple Waterfalls

For those who enjoy a bit of exploration and a chance to see more of Wildcat Wayside’s beauty, there’s a 1-mile loop trail that will take you deeper into the heart of the area. The hike is relatively easy, making it an excellent choice for families or casual hikers. While there are a few stairs along the path to navigate, it’s generally accessible. Children will have no problem enjoying this hike, and it’s a great way to introduce younger adventurers to the wonders of the outdoors.

As you meander along the trail, you’ll be rewarded with not one, but potentially four different waterfalls! Depending on the recent rainfall levels, you might see anywhere from two to four waterfalls along the loop. These waterfalls range in size and intensity, with the largest being particularly striking after a good rainfall.

If you’re visiting after a period of rain, the waterfalls will likely be at their most vibrant, with the full force of the water tumbling down into the pools below.
