On February 15th, 2024 we met a group from Girls Who Hike South Carolina (GWHSC) at Caesars Head State Park in South Carolina. We planned to hike to three falls: Evans Falls, Mashbox Falls and Misty Falls. Our planned trail mysteriously disappeared from AllTrails before our hike. We found another that showed the path to the falls. We parked roadside south of the park off Geer Highway (276). We first hiked on Oil Camp Creek Trail, then a section of Pinnacle Trail before turning to the left a few feet after the trail crossed over into Jones Gap State Park. We followed an unnamed trail to Evans Falls. I marked our route in orange on the photo below borrowed from Alltrails. Evans Fall is beautiful, it drops about 15ft. We also saw a lovely cascade nearby. The trails to Mashbox and Misty were not obvious, we decided to play it safe and head back. We did hear Misty Falls on our way back but were unable to see it through the foliage. The entire trail is about 3 miles out and back. It is mostly easy.
Note: I was informed by the rangers of Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area (MBWA) that the unnamed side trail to Evans Falls is not a trail developed by the park service. Should you have any questions about this or other trails in MBWA, please contact the rangers at Caesars Head State park. A map of designated trails can be obtained from the office. It is illegal to hike off trail within the park.
