On September 26, 2022, my husband and I set out to hike the Upper Falls Trail — a popular, moderately rated 2.5‑mile route that requires a Discovery Pass to park at the trailhead. Even before stepping onto the path, we noticed how busy the area was, a clear sign of how beloved this trail is among locals and visitors alike.
Once we began hiking, the forest quickly wrapped us in its quiet beauty. I loved walking past moss‑covered trees, their emerald layers glowing softly in the filtered light. The trail follows stretches of flowing water, creating a peaceful soundtrack as we made our way toward the upper falls. According to AllTrails, the elevation gain is 616 feet, and while the climb is steady, it’s very manageable and rewarding.

After reaching the upper falls and enjoying the cool mist drifting from the cascade, we began our return journey. On the way back, I took the steps down to view the Lower Falls — a worthwhile detour that adds another scenic highlight to the day.

Because this trail is so popular, we passed several groups along the way. I highly recommend arriving early to secure a parking spot and to enjoy the forest’s serenity before the crowds build. The trail’s beauty deserves to be savored without feeling rushed.
