In 2016, my family vacationed on Fripp Island, and it remains one of the most memorable trips we’ve ever taken. The journey began in the Midlands, and even the drive felt like part of the adventure. On the way, we stopped at the hauntingly beautiful Old Sheldon Church, wandering among its quiet ruins and moss‑draped arches before continuing toward the coast. That peaceful pause set the tone for the rest of the trip.
Fripp Island is a private, gated island, so you must have a reservation to enter. Once inside, the world shifts—palmettos sway in the breeze, the ocean glimmers through the dunes, and everything slows down. We headed straight to our rented condo overlooking the Atlantic, a place so serene that simply sitting on the balcony felt like a vacation in itself.
The week was packed with unforgettable experiences. We went deep‑sea fishing, the kind of outing where the salt air, rolling waves, and thrill of the catch make you feel fully alive. We kayaked through the marsh, gliding past egrets and oyster beds while the sun warmed the water around us. One of the most magical moments was riding horses on the beach at neighboring St. Helena Island—a dreamy, cinematic experience that felt straight out of a novel.
We also visited Hunting Island State Park, exploring its lighthouse, beaches, and maritime forest. And one evening, we drove into downtown Beaufort for dinner, enjoying the historic streets, waterfront views, and warm Lowcountry hospitality.
It was a vacation I’d repeat in a heartbeat—beautiful, peaceful, and full of adventure. Fripp Island has a way of staying with you long after you leave.
