On Saturday July 13th, 2024 a group of us headed to Cayce, SC to walk the Timmerman Trail. The trail meanders along the Congaree Creek through an old forest that has seen its share of historic events some dating back to the Revolutionary war, others to the Civil war. It is peppered with signs depicting the history of the area.
The trail has two entrances off the 12th street extension. We parked at the intersection of Otarre Parkway and 12th St. extension. There is a small, free public parking lot at this location. We followed the Timmerman Trail and connected with the Cayce Riverwalk to the Thomas A. Newman Boat Landing. We then turned around and headed back for a total of 5.4 miles. This section of trail has no facilities. It is well-maintained, well-marked, easy, paved, and quite popular with cyclists and hikers alike. Timmerman Trail offers a walk in the woods that is lovely in any season. Tall trees provide plenty of shade, especially welcome in the hot Carolina summers. Occasionally an egret, a heron, or an alligator makes an appearance at the creek’s bank.
