What could I possibly say about Gooseberry Falls State Park in October?! Beautiful trails, spectacular waterfalls, picturesque scenery, stunning fall colors don’t even begin to do it justice. We had a wonderful hike on Fifth Falls and Superior Hiking Trail Loop. It’s an enjoyable, mostly easy, picturesque 3 miles trail. We went over bridges, hiked to beautiful lookouts, walked along a river gorge, checked out a historic retaining wall, hung out by waterfalls… Sections of the Gitchi-Gami and Superior Hiking Trail pass through the park. It is named after the falls along Gooseberry River. Park and retaining wall were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934. It became an official park in 1937. It boasts five waterfalls, Gooseberry River and gorge, a beach, several trail, Lake Superior shoreline, cross country skiing, etc.
