Spectacular Caribou Falls: The Easy North Shore Hike With a Stunning Waterfall Reward, MN

Located near Finland, Minnesota, Caribou Falls is one of the most scenic waterfall destinations along the North Shore of Lake Superior. The hike to the falls is relatively short, covering just 1.2 miles round trip, making it an excellent option for hikers of all skill levels.

The trail is mostly easy and pleasant, winding through a peaceful forest before reaching a series of stairs near the end. While the staircase adds a bit of effort to the journey, any challenge quickly fades once the waterfall comes into view. Caribou Falls plunges dramatically into a rugged gorge, creating one of the most picturesque scenes in northeastern Minnesota.

We visited on October 7, 2022, during peak fall color season, and the landscape was absolutely stunning. Brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold lined the trail, transforming the hike into a spectacular autumn experience. The colorful foliage, combined with the sound of rushing water and the beauty of the falls, made this one of the highlights of our North Shore adventure.

Though short in length, the Caribou Falls Trail delivers a memorable combination of scenic beauty, fall colors, and an impressive waterfall, making it a must-visit stop for anyone exploring Minnesota’s North Shore.
