As we took in the stunning views off of Highway 61 on the North Shore heading toward Two Harbors, we came upon the Silver Creek Cliff Tunel. It was October 4th, 2022. We had to stop, read about it and indulge in the spectacular views of the Cliffs. The tunnel was completed in 1994 as an alternative to the treacherous road near the cliffs’ edge. The 1,344 ft tunnel took 3 years to finish. It is a cool tunnel, carved into the mountain; but what I loved most about our stop are the picturesque views alongside it. I later learned that it is actually a section of the Gitchi-Gami trail.
