Midlands snow 2022 arrived just as the ice from the previous storm finally melted, surprising South Carolina with a second round of winter weather. It had been eight years since our last true snowstorm, so waking up on January 22, 2022 felt magical. I jumped out of bed with the same excitement I had as a child, eager to bundle up and head outside with my camera.

I layered myself like I was preparing for an Arctic expedition and stepped into a neighborhood still wrapped in silence. The streets were untouched, the snow soft and pristine, and not a soul was outside that early. After a few minutes of wandering and snapping photos, the cold convinced me to turn back for a hot cup of tea.
By the time I returned outdoors, the neighborhood had awakened. Children and adults filled the streets, sliding across the snow with makeshift sleds, laughing, and building snowmen. I captured the joy around me, including a few sweet photos of a lovely neighbor and her handsome son enjoying the rare winter treat.

The entire neighborhood looked like a winter wonderland — sparkling, peaceful, and beautifully transformed. Here in the Midlands, we’re not equipped for snow, and we greet it with equal parts delight and relief. We welcome the magic, and we’re just as happy to watch it melt away.

I live in the Caribbean so no snow here at all. Hope you guys enjoyed and a cup of hot chocolate afterwards would have been essential 😊
We rarely get snow so this was a treat! I had hot tea 😉
