Bird Count 2023: A Colorful Spring Morning in My Backyard, South Carolina

Bird Count 2023 began quietly as I sipped my morning coffee, watching the yard come alive with movement and color. Two hours later, I headed back inside with hundreds of photos—some taken near my neighbors’ yards—and probably a few mosquito bites to show for it. The morning brought a lively mix of birds and even a couple of squirrels exploring the branches.

Today’s identified species per Merlin ID, included: Northern cardinal, Sparrow, Yellow‑rumped warbler, Eastern bluebird, American robin, Blue Jay, Yellow warbler, American mockingbird, Mourning dove, Red‑bellied woodpecker, Downy woodpecker, and House Finch.

It was one of those perfect spring mornings that reminds me why I love this season so much. I love the flowers, the bird songs, and the burst of color that makes the world feel fresh and full of life. Step outside, breathe it in, and explore. Happy Spring.
