Rankin Ridge Interpretive Trail, Wind Cave National Park, SD

We hiked Rankin Ridge Interpretive Trail in Wind Cave National Park on 6/5/2022. It is a one mile moderate loop. I was pleased when a cute pronghorn deer appeared on our way to the park. He took off soon after our cars slowed down to snap his photos.

The trail was short and moderate revealing stunning vistas that culminated at the fire tower extending out to Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota. The elevation gain is 293ft, uphill at the start and downhill on the way back. It is peppered with a variety of colorful spring flowers. It is supposed to be popular, but we had it pretty much to ourselves until we made our way back to the parking lot. I highly recommend this hike when in the area as the views are simply amazing.
