Pinckney National Wildlife Refuge, SC

At the end of August 2020, I visited this refuge while on vacation to Hilton Head Island with my mother. We only hiked about 5 miles round trip as she tires quickly and the weather was hot and humid as you’d expect in South Carolina’s lowcountry. We sprayed bug repellent but unlike other refuges I’ve been to lately, this one was not all that bad. When I visited previously in the fall, the weather was much more conducive to hiking. On that trip we hiked to White Point. A lovely spot on Port Royal Sound , north of the island. Unlike the fall trip when we did not encounter any wildlife, we saw a number of species on this trip especially in Ibis pond which is where most of the following photos were taken. Pinckney is a lovely island I would not hesitate to recommend it. It is very picturesque with nice well maintained hiking and biking trails.
