On October 3rd, 2024, we headed to Vermont’s Sterling Gorge. It was a delightful fall day. As a fellow hiker observed, the woods delighted us with a “kaleidoscope of colors and a cacophony of sounds.” I thoroughly enjoyed this hike. The trail was interpretive with many signs along the way explaining facts about the gorge formation, the rocks etc. I’d label it as moderate due to steps, rocks, roots and bit of ups and downs as you’d expect when hiking a gorge. The waterfall was rather small but beautiful, nonetheless. I lost the trail after going down the steps, if you reach the creek, you are going the wrong way. I backtracked and saw my friend returning from seeing the falls. The waterfall trail is actually to the left after the “waterfall trail” sign. Once at the parking lot, I heard a water cascade, so I headed up hill where several trails begin. Crossing a wooden bridge, I was amazed at the splendor of fall colors before me. Further up, a lovely pond awaited with beautiful mountain and tree reflection. I highly recommend hiking the short gorge and walking up trail especially in the fall season. I found my hiking stick helpful for the gorge hike portion.
