Tucked away near Pinkham Notch and the Mount Washington Valley, Crystal Cascades is a spot worth adding to your list. This scenic, two-tiered waterfall is located on the Cutler River, just a short walk from the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center. The falls drop about 100 feet in total. The combination of height, force, and beauty makes it one of the most photogenic waterfalls in the White Mountains.

The Cutler River itself begins high on Mount Washington’s eastern slopes. It carries snowmelt and rainfall down through Pinkham Notch, creating the cascades before eventually joining the Ellis River further downstream.
We visited in October 2024 on a day when fall displayed its full splendor. I relished the colors before me: yellows, burnt orange, green, browns …

The trail to the waterfall is less than half a mile from the visitor center, making it a perfect short hike for families, beginners, or anyone short on time. The path is well-maintained and shaded, winding gently through forested terrain before reaching a viewing platform with a perfect angle of the falls.
Crystal Cascades Trail Highlights:
