On May 2nd, 2025, we set out on a short but scenic hike to Dog Slaughter Falls in Kentucky’s Daniel Boone National Forest. The 2.4-mile out-and-back trail winds alongside Dog Slaughter creek, offering a peaceful journey through the forest.
Along the way, we encountered a damaged bridge, but with careful footing, we navigated across the rocks and stayed dry. Though the elevation gain is a manageable 223 feet, the abundance of tree roots, fallen trees and one water crossing make the path moderate. A hiking stick is helpful.

Boulders scattered throughout the trail added to the rugged beauty of the landscape. Despite the steady rain, the trail was easy to follow and not crowded, allowing us to fully appreciate the serenity of the forest. At the end of our hike, we were rewarded with the stunning sight of the 15-foot waterfall cascading gracefully into a pool below. I enjoyed our hike and went on to visit other neighboring falls in the afternoon.
