Palmetto Trail: Fort Jackson Passage

Wanted to stay local on Saturday July 11th, 2020 so we decided to hike the Fort Jackson passage of the Palmetto Trail. Due to Covid-19, we met at the trail head at Gate 5 off Leesburg rd. The parking lot was easy to find per the direction on the Palmetto conservation’s web site. We headed west toward the fort. The trail was easy to find, mostly pinewoods. We decided to turn around as soon as we reached the lake as we encountered quite few cobwebs and it seemed that perhaps it was less traveled after that point. By the time we got back to the parking lot we had hiked about 5 miles including walking around the lake and the reception house. Next time we will wander eastward. This passage is long about 16 miles mostly running parallel to Leesburg road. Remember your bug repellent, I understand there is an abundance of ticks in this area, though I thankfully did not experience any.
