Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, SC

Founded in 1676 by the Drayton family, Magnolia plantation’s gardens are the oldest public gardens in America! They opened in 1870. My mother and I visited today and strolled through the gardens and the Audubon swamp. We enjoyed the colorful flowers, the wildlife, the bridges, the trees, the views of the Ashley river. I saw this quote on their web site that I really like “Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher.” – William Wordsworth.

When in Charleston, you owe it to yourself to dedicate a day to visit Magnolia and experience both its history and beauty.
