I hiked 40 Acre Rock five weekends in a row in 2020 including our first hike for the year. I took someone new with me every time, all excited to have them hike this neat place. You pass by a waterfall, a swamp, a creek, walk through pine forest… The preserve offers such a variety of terrains that make it very interesting to hike. The loop itself is about 5 miles round trip if you park at the upper parking lot. It is located about 75 min from Blythewood in Kershaw County. The rock itself is amazing. It seems to extend forever and looks like a scene from Star Wars could be filmed on it. It is moderately trafficked; I’ve always seen a few groups hiking or lounging on the rock.
