I hiked 40 Acre Rock five weekends in a row in 2020 including our first hike for the year. I took someone new with me every time, all excited to have them hike this neat place. You pass by a waterfall, a swamp, a creek, walk through pine forest… The preserve offers such a variety of terrains that make it very interesting to hike. The loop itself is about 5 miles round trip. It is located about 75min from Blythewood in Kershaw county. The rock itself is amazing. It seems to extend forever and looks like a scene from Star Wars could be filmed on it. It is moderately traffic, I’ve always seen a few groups hiking or lounging on the rock.
